The best of all worlds. The Ultra Lightweight BNVD has our vote for Best New NV Product of 2017. Smaller, lighter - CHECK. The ability to switch between the speed of binos and the situational awareness of monocular - CHECK. No splash from the tube that's rotated up when in monocular mode - CHECK. NVD knocked it out of the park with this goggle.
The UL-BNVD UL incorporates new high performance optics that are not only much lighter, but also offer higher performance than standard optics. Currently the AN/PVS-14 and most other night vision systems, use optics which were only designed for green (P43) phosphor image tubes. However these new BNVD optics were designed specifically to be optimized for both White (P45) and Green (P43) image tubes.
The BNVD UL includes features not found in other dual tube goggle designs in this weight class. These features include: EMI compatibility, Full Diopter Adjustment Range (-6 to +2), Infrared LED, and most importantly: a close focus range of 9.8 inches. This is critical when trying to read maps or do close up work such as clearing a weapons jam.
NVD-BNVD UL now features a “TACTICAL Monocular Cutoff” which turns off power to each channel of the monocular whenever a channel is rotated up out of the users line of sight. This eliminates stray light flashing the users helmet, which would reveal the user to anyone else on the battlefield. The BNVD UL has an automatic system power cutoff whenever the BNVD is flipped up into the helmet mounted stow position, and then powers back on when it is flipped back down. This feature can also be turned off via a four position ON/OFF switch. The BNVD UL is submersible to 66 feet (20 meters) for up to 3 hours. The BNVD UL is available with an optional battery pack, which holds 3 “AA” Alkaline batteries for run times exceeding 50 hours.
